The following persons are non-partisan candidates for School Board in Jefferson County and have the endorsement and support of the Executive Committee.

Ed Vollertson is the Incumbent candidate for District 1 School Board Member. Most often, Mr. Vollertson's position on critical issues has been consistent with the general public. He was re-elected for the first time in 2004.

Earleen Knight was recently appointed to the School Board by Governor Charlie Crist to serve the unexpired term of the late Beverly Sloan.

Ms. Knight retired from the Jefferson County School system after more than thirty years as a teacher. She received multiple National Awards as a teacher.

District 2 is the only minority District in Jefferson County. Ms. Knight is opposed by three candidates, all minority. Neither of the opposing candidates have the experience or credentials of Ms. Knight.

We endorse and support Ms. Knight.

Marianne Arbulu is a newcomer to Jefferson County. She opposes one of the oldest members of the Board, Franklin Hightower. A third candidate, Nancy Benjamin, is also in the race.

Ms. Arbulu is bright, energetic and unafraid to take on the challenges of the problems in our County. Although, she has not been involved in the local system, that may well be an asset. Her experiences are marked with success. Her creativity and grasp of the issues should play a key role in rekindling this community.
