Message to Independents, No Party Affiliation, etc.- Time to SWITCH
Like many of you, I was born and reared in Florida with most of my adult years spent under the "old Florida election laws". Also, like many of you, I was a registered Democrat but usually voted for the Republican Presidential candidate. In my case, I always voted for the Republican candidate, even when fellow Southerner Jimmy Carter ran. I finally switched to Republican and I began to take on more of a feeling of "ownership" in the values of the Republicans I knew and I felt better. For example, "smaller government, responsible spending, less government intrusion in my life, lower taxes, family, less spending, freedom", pride in Country, flag, etc.". If you share these values and feel that our fiscal integrity must be restored, then I ask you to call me at 850-228-4400. I promise to make "switching" as easy as it can possibly be.
Under current law, a voter with NO party affiliation CANNOT vote in either primary if there is a candidate in the primary race. 2008 and 2010 is an excellent example of why I believe our registration should be consistent with our basic beliefs. There are 5 Republican candidates for CD2. There are 2 Democrats in the Democratic Primary. Likewise, John McCain was one of many Republicans in the 2008 primary. NPAs, Independents, etc lost their primary vote; then they were issued Barack Obama and John McCain.

Growing the Republican Executive Committee in Jefferson County
At the May meeting, the Jefferson County Republican Executive
Committee voted unanimously to seat Ed Vollertsen as Precinct Committeeman in
Precinct 4, Caroline Carswell as Alternate Committeewoman in 4 and Jane
Vollertsen as Alternate Committeewoman in Precinct 9. Other business
included the resignation of Jim Davis, leaving his Precinct Committeman position
open.
In the coming
weeks, the REC will be trying to fill vacant positions. Anyone interested
in being considered should contact Clyde Simpson via email at
chairman@JeffersonGOP.com.
Paul Michael is running for County Commissioner in District 4. The incumbent is "Skeet" Joyner. PAUL WILL SPEAK AT THE CARAVAN WHISTLESTOP and will be attending REC meetings frequently. June 26 - 10 am ish - See above.
Last month we reported the
www.JeffersonCountyVoice.com
website was officially launched and accepted its' first vote from Jefferson County
voters. After the REC meeting, many voters gathered around laptops to see
the site demonstration, sign up and cast their VOTE ON THE ISSUES. The
website reflects the majority opinion of our community on issues that affect us
all. CAST YOUR VOTE. Let them know where you stand.
We applaud the spirit of the idea and the determination that made it
happen. Thank you.
Jefferson County Republican Party Continues to grow
In Jefferson County, and I suspect elsewhere, the number of voters in the Republican Party rose by more than 100 while the Democrats lost 55. Prior to the 2008 elections, both parties were growing; still with Republicans at a greater rate. Despite being outnumbered more than 4 to 1, John McCain lost Jefferson County by less than 300 votes. McCain WON in CD2. Of course, 2010 is another year; however, the 2008 results provide a pretty convincing argument that North Florida has its own voice, more conservative than other parts of Florida.
